Our Committees
Our committees are the driving force behind the Original Highlands Neighborhood Association. They help us focus our efforts on key areas that matter to our residents and ensure a vibrant and safe community.
Communications
Typical Subject Matter Concerned: newsletter / social media / website / awareness
The committee shall provide strategic direction for and development and execution of communications and marketing strategies which support initiatives central to the Original Highlands’ mission and purpose. The committee shall actively promote the organization to prospective members and, when appropriate, throughout the city at large, and shall support communications and marketing needs of its various committees. Responsibilities of the Communications/Marketing Committee include, but are not limited to, quarterly newsletters, monthly meeting minutes, update and maintenance of the OHNA web site, and other means of communications and marketing deemed appropriate by the Board.
Safety & Infrastructure
Typical Subject Matter Concerned: parking / crime / streets / trash cans
The committee shall promote the safety of the neighborhood and its residents by acting as a liaison with the City’s Police Department and Fire Department.
Trees & Beautification
Typical Subject Matter Concerned: liaison with city / planting / grants
The committee shall promote improvement of the physical environment of the neighborhood. The committee shall serve as liaison with City and other government agencies and commissions, foster a neighborhood spirit to improve the quality of life for people who reside and work on the Original Highlands, and monitor the maintenance and improvement of the city’s infrastructure.
Zoning & Development
Typical Subject Matter Concerned: business liaison / development / zoning / ABC
The Design, Zoning and Land Use (DZLU) Committee monitors and helps shape development projects and land use policies to the benefit of the Original Highlands and the City. DZLU makes recommendations to the OHNA Board on these issues. We encourage the preservation of the Original Highlands significant historic buildings. We examine the effects of the planning and building codes on our neighborhood. We engage with our elected officials, commissions and staff, as well as with other neighborhood organizations, to advocate for exemplary projects and policies.
Fundraising & Event Management
Typical Subject Matter Concerned: event coordination / fundraising / membership / grants
The committee shall oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of fundraising initiatives and community events that support the mission and financial health of the Association. This includes managing membership drives and exploring grant opportunities.
